Data Tech Lead
As a Data Tech Lead in the data team at Embark you will be a gamemaker who both builds and guides - owning the technical direction of the data platform, tools, and AI-powered systems that support the creation of the most fun, balanced, and engaging games possible. You'll set the technical bar for a small, focused team while staying deep in the code yourself.
The data team at Embark is focused on making sure that game design and development have a data model and reporting system that provide the necessary data and analysis to serve every aspect of the business.
We believe in creating smaller teams of well-aligned experts that can be trusted to keep things running smoothly while exploring innovative solutions, and we're looking for someone who can sharpen and grow that team technically.
Some of the technologies we currently use are Python, Go, GCP, Typescript, Bazel, Terraform, Kubernetes and BigQuery.
Example of responsibilities
Set the technical vision and roadmap for the data team, balancing long-term direction with short-term delivery
Architect, build, and improve data backend services and tools for data-driven game development
Lead our work on data agents and AI-powered tooling - making it dramatically easier for gamemakers across the studio to explore, query, and act on data
Mentor and grow the team - supporting career development, hiring when needed, and creating an environment where engineers do their best work
Continuously improve our engineering practices and automate existing workflows to make sure our services are easy to deploy, scale and maintain
Collaborate closely with other teams to build solutions that the players (and fellow game makers) love
We would love if you have
Significant experience as a senior or staff backend/data engineer, with time spent leading or tech-leading a team
A passion for interactive experiences, games and new technologies
A solid understanding of distributed systems and experience building them on cloud infrastructure
A good grasp of performance, optimization and observability
Experience with some of the technologies we use such as Python, Go and GCP
Hands-on experience with LLMs, agents, or AI-assisted tooling - or a strong appetite to go deep on it
A track record of mentoring engineers and raising the bar of the teams you've been part of
The ability to set technical direction while staying close enough to the code to make sound architectural calls
Strong communication skills and the ability to align cross-functional stakeholders
Professional English communication skills
